Pre- Production- Treatment Of Idea

What is your chosen genre of photography?

My chosen genre of photography is portraiture and fine art.
The reason why I have chosen this genre is because I have been researching and looking at different photographers’ work and throughout my findings I came to realise how much I like the idea of combining fine art into photography.

Explain your concept/theme for this genre.
The concept/theme chosen is  the London Borough of Culture and I selected the the theme ‘Makers’ to represent the makers of this community throughout history and  because we have become so much more multicultural ‘makers’ also reflect not only Waltham Forest but the different cultures that have become a community. I would like to incorporate the specific idea of a maker and what they have brought or been influenced by culturally. I would  of a like to use the idea of a model or models to inmate a wooden manikin posture to look like they’re being ‘made’ by a maker. The reason why I thought of  this idea is because to highlight local makers because I believe people in the community have forgotten about the origin, historical meaning, purpose of makers in waltham forest therefore I am producing this product not only to highlight but to educate young adults about local makers.

My idea links to the genre I have chosen which is fine Art because of the idea of makes and artists and the research that i did on William Morris. Because I would like to educate my audience through both my images and text, my double page spread is going to be editorial as well as fine art. Another reason why it is going to be editorial is because the images that I plan to create have a messages behind them. For example - historical through William Morris and his work and multiculturalism - how art has been influenced by other cultures and throughout all my images the idea of locality - the importance of local artists.

You need to explain your approach to your ideas and why you have chosen them?

I  intend to produce a double page magazine spread(print and digital) with or a series of images and quotes, to represent the makers of this community throughout history and  because we have become so much more multicultural ‘makers’ also reflect not only Waltham Forest but the different cultures that have become a community. I would like to incorporate the specific idea of a maker and what they have brought or been influenced by culturally. I would  of a like to use the idea of a model or models to inmate a wooden manikin posture to look like they’re being ‘made’ by a maker. The reason why I thought of  this idea is because to highlight local makers because believe people in the community have forgotten about the origin, historical meaning, purpose of makers in waltham forest therefore I am producing this product not only to highlight but to educate young adults about local makers.

One of my ideas consists of my interpretation of William Morris’s work. After researching into the history, I realised that he played a important role not only as a Waltham Forest maker but in the architecture in Waltham Forest and  beyond. For that reason I believe it is important that I incorporate some of his history because I want to educate my audience about Waltham Forest makers. I also want to educate them on the history and the makers who have influenced their work and how Waltham Forest feels and looks today. My other idea is to highlight art and different artists and how they played a part too, including  multiculturalism and how different cultures have influenced work being produced just as William Morris was. Finally my last idea is to highlight ceramics and pottery and to show the influences that might have affected work - especially West and East Asian influences.

I also intend to incorporate fabrics from a range of cultures in all three images to showcase the beauty of the fabrics and to celebrate how art is not only to look at, it is to use and wear - a message that I hope will be seen in the pottery image.

Alongside these images, I also intend to have text to complement the images, not only educate my audience but also to express my opinions. I also hope to use my research and ideas about multiculturalism in the text. I would also like the text and images to be a source of inspiration to my target audience as they are quite young, therefore their minds are fresh and they might not yet know what they would like to do as a career. So, with this double page spread, I would like to play a part in not only educating them, but inspiring them.
