This is the layout for my double page spread, the reason why I chose to lay it out like this is due to the feedback I got from my focus group. I decided to incorporate a variety of elements that were discussed. For example the illustrations and the text to be in colour to represent the brightness of the community, the illustrations are going to be around the photograph images because the flowers etc are to represent the elements in the photos therefore, it will look like the illustrations came to life from the images. Also the illustrations look like they are linked together. I did that on purpose so it connotes a sense of togetherness/ community. The illustrations can also be used to navigate the audience’s eye around the double page spread. The ‘LBWF’ stands for London Borough Waltham Forest in graffiti font to represent the graffiti on walls and buildings around Waltham Forest. The reasoning behind the typography being dark green or black is because there is a lot of bright colours going on in the spread, and to re-attract the audience’s eye to the middle of the magazine spread. The letters from LWBF are in each corner of each image and this is to show to the audience that all of this creativity and artistry came of out of Waltham Forest. Additionally, it emphasises the fact that even though some people might not believe Waltham Forest’s history has influenced the contemporary Waltham Forest’s makers, I want to showcase that they have. So matter how multicultural we are we always fall back history.
The fact that the letters being in the corners of the images but also in the middle makes the letters the point of focus and it also reinforces the whole concept of the double page spread.
I would like the magazine spread A2, landscape as it is going to be a double page spread as it is going to have a lot of elements such as the images, the text, the illustration etc. For that reason it has to be quite big. The images that are going to be on the double page spread, I would like them to be A4 size because I want them also to be the point of focus as well as the letters because when the audience looks at the letters in the middle, their eye is automatically navigated to the images. This naturally becomes secondary points of focus. The reason behind that is that I am going to put the illustrations around the image, therefore I will need as much space as possible.
On each image, I am planning to have quotes from local famous artists from the area that are related to the image in order to motivate and inspire the young audience that I am aspiring to target.
Exhibition layout
Exhibition layout
This is the layout for my college exhibition that is going to happen at the end of the year to promote my magazine spread. I plan to have two photos from each concept in A2 size. I plan to exhibit just the photos of my double page spread on the wall and I am also going to have the plastic flowers and paint brushes stuck onto the wall. This will help direct the audience’s eye to each individual photo and they will also connect the photos together to give the audience a sense of community and togetherness.
For the exhibition, I am going to have a tablet in front of the display board which will have my double page spread on it but without the quotations. I am going to create audio of people saying the quotations. When people press on an image, the quotation relating to that image or concept will play. I have had discussions with the technicians when coming up with this idea and they said that it was possible. I came up with this idea because I wanted to do something different and not just have people look at the photos, they also interact with them which gives a sense of community and working together. I also wanted to include the auditory sense as well as touch and visual. I want my exhibit to be something that the audience enjoy and remember.
